    Inuk, I have a brother that spent 18 month at an army installation in the north-central area of Alaska. They stayed hunkered down most of the winter as the buildings were connected by heated tunnels. I remember he call on Christmas Day and told us it was -76 F with 60 MPH winds outside that day. This was in about 1963. He has fond memories of the Alaska wilderness.
