    I mentioned that where I live, when you return your cans and bottles to the grocery store, you get 10 cents per can and bottle in a refund as a reward for recycling.

    Jet asked if there is anything like that in Germany, so cans and bottles are recycled.

    Yes. It's definitely not a "free" system. Ten cents is added to the price of every bottle and can, and you get it back when you return them.

    2001pm stated that at his local grocer, he can bring in bushels and bags of accumulated aluminum cans to exchange into a simple machine, whereby it totals them, and gives you a receipt for the process.

    In America, cans and bottles can be exchanged for percentages of a dollar in some states, so that gives others an incentive to recycle.

    it just got raised to 5 cents here, was 2.5 cents, you can also take them to a recycle center instead of the machines then you dont go through them can by can

    Is this before or after the purchase? i.e. Is the refund also tacked onto the price, as the others are stating, then if you so choose to return the bottles, do you get it back?


    I never heard of inflated refunds the way you guys are describing. :|
