Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads.     It was a memorable moment in my life. Ebert -- and Siskel's estate -- own the rights to the phrase, "Two Thumbs Up." When Buena vista TV suggested to Ebert that he "pep up" the At the Movies show, he basically said Fuck You. His plans are for another show -- simple, like the original. He is back to writing full-time (see http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/), but he can't speak because of the cancer surgery on his jaw... :(

    Roger Ebert was (is, but not on the show) a phenomenal reviewer because he was so consistent in his reasoning and his taste. I disagree with him very often, but he is good at explaining why he likes/dislikes a movie, so I can generally tell from reading his review if I am going to like it or not.

    There are a lot of movies he dislikes that I know from the review I will like, and vice versa. The reviews are so well-executed that I can get a feel for whether I'll like it, independent of whether he does or not.

    That's a _huge_ skill for a reviewer. It's pretty much why you read 'em in the first place.

    That's a nice sum-up, SJ. He communicates so clearly -- a difficult thing to do when reviewing films. I've tried it as a writer. Way harder than it may seem!
