    Slavery is as old as history itself. Nobody really owns the subject. For centuries, the English and Irish would raid each other's shores in search of children to put into indentured servitude. I wouldn't be surprised if my ancestors on both sides weren't involved in it.

    I especially appreciate that they're finally admitting, and teaching, that African slavery wasn't all about white folk running through the jungle and the veld, snaring black folk. It was mostly tribes kidnapping or capturing other tribes and selling them to traders.

    I only get annoyed with things like that because some people have a funny way of somehow blaming the British....natch, the English, for every sin on the Earth. :mad:

    The Brits were fairly late to the slave trade. The Arabs were the first to really exploit it for profit. And you are correct, stronger African kingdoms were just as culpable. It was in their best interests to deplete their historical enemies by taking advantage of the slave trade.

    It's just, when i was a moppet, that's not what we were taught. Oh, slavery bad, but never the actual history.
    It's good they're finally balancing that out in schools, instead of just succumbing to the PC governing principle of `it's all whitey's fault` ;)
