Hi, everyone. I have started the most comprehensive SI Swimsuit Model Tournament ever. Here's the description, pasted from my blog. I hope lots of you vote, because I'm curious to see the results! I'll start posting matches in replies to this thread. Enjoy!!

All matches, brackets, and results will be kept here.

    ---------
As of 2013, there have been 221 models that have appeared in the 50 publications of the SI Swimsuit Issue. All 221 are a part of this exciting competition!

The tournament consists of two parts: the Main Draw and the Qualifying Draw. The Main Draw consists of 128 models, one of which will be the ultimate champion. Here's the breakdown of the Main Draw:

    32 seeded models
    64 unseeded models
    32 qualifiers

I have created a unique ranking system that ranks every one of the 221 SI Swimsuit models. The top 32 in the rankings are assigned seeds according to their rank, and they are distributed throughout the bracket so a seeded model will not match up against another seeded model until the 3rd round of the tournament.

The 64 models ranked #s 33-96 are also in the Main Draw, and they are considered "unseeded" models. Unseeded models were randomly assigned in the bracket, always matching up against another unseeded model in the 1st round of the Main Draw.

The final 32 positions in the Main Draw are reserved for those models who advance through the Qualifying Draw. The 125 models ranked between 97-221 participate in the Qualifying Draw, which consists of two rounds, thinning the field to the 32 qualifiers who will earn a spot in the Main Draw. All bracket slots (and thus, the first round matches) in the Qualifying Draw were randomly assigned.

For the 32 models lucky enough to survive the Qualifying Draw, their first round matchup will be against one of the 32 seeded models. So, it's a tough road to hoe for one of those qualifiers to make it deep in the tournament!

Each match will have a voting period of one week. After the voting period is over, the results will be announced and the winner will move on to the next round in the tournament. This continues until we have our one champion.

Voted - pretty easy so far, with only one unfair matchup - I really like Dominique Piek, but she can't stand against Cindy Crawford.

Yeah, I agree. I love Dominique, too. I was kind of bummed when she drew Cindy Crawford in the first qualifying round. Unlucky. It just proves that I'm running this fairly! :) Thanks for voting. Keep it up. This is fun!

That was a drubbing put on by Monika Schnarre, with 94% of the vote. Wow! The matchup between Rachel Roberts and Shirley Mallmann should be interesting. For a lot of these qualifying matches, it's pretty easy to predict who would win. Not so for that one.

A lot of work, but not sure I understand a ranking system that doesn't put Cindy Crawford in, if not a seeded position then at least an unseeded position. If you look around the web she is almost always ranked as one of the top 20 or so of all time.

The rankings are based completely on facts related to SI appearances, not any other outside modeling. Clearly, Cindy is a supermodel of all-time, but she appeared just once in the SI Swimsuit issue. You may think I should rank her higher, and you may be right, but the rankings are completely based in math and take out all human element. If I decided to rank Cindy higher, then what's to stop the argument of ranking Model X or Y higher because of their non-SI accomplishments. Then, it becomes my opinion rather than based in facts and math.

Cindy is one of the very few instances where the SI appearances and math is in such great contrast to their outside world modeling. So, it's a glaring example and looks like a big mistake. But, the math is the math. I think it's pretty interesting having someone possibly come out of the qualifying rounds to challenge the queens of SI. :)

More about the tournament format and rankings can be found here, by the way. If you're interested.

    Thanks for the comments!
