Thanks for the warning, I had already opened an account without looking up the FAQ
Here is the quote, prohibiting pornography and assuring disqualification for points

Which files are allowed to be uploaded?
All files that do not violate our terms of service or the laws of concerned countries. This means that files violating copyrights, or containing pornography, are forbidden and will be removed as soon as we notice. If you see such files on Megaupload, we would be glad if you notified us: Simply file an abuse report on our front page.

Every qualifying download of one of your files will earn you a reward point. When you have reached a certain number of points, you can redeem them for premium status or even cash. If you have popular content that you have the rights to distribute, this program is for you. If you are trying to earn money by posting files that infringe on the rights of others, forget about it. You will be disqualified.

If it turns out we couldn’t trust RS, how can we have confidence in any service when it comes to traffic, content, speed, lifespan of files we upload, or the $ we are going to earn?
    -
This is even more worrisome when considering Sharingmatrix and other high profile MMLM – Modified Multi Level Marketers, where a plethora of options and opportunities to divide the cheese are available while forming a type of conspiracy.

Will any of the file hosting services end up having long legs? What about their domains?
After a quick glance of the 8 permitted at Phun, only three are not $$$ sites.
and 2 of them supposedly do not permit pornography…that leaves only RS.

Now that RS is in bed with Hollywood lawyers, if I ever have anything to post with them for lack of alternatives, I can only hope that I am never to blame for somebody buying rapids.

Excellent new rule(s) - the more rules the less likely troglodytes will post garbage no one wants.

    Keep it up.

These new rules are pointless. They address the symptoms but ignore the real problem. These "troglodytes" don't respect rules and don't care if their posts get deleted because they will just repost them; or if their accounts get banned because they will just sign up again.

All these new rules do is frustrate posters like myself who weren't doing anything wrong and will now be inconvenienced because the moderators refuse to admit that file hosts like sharingmatrix and hotfile attract the worst kind of members. The new file hosts are the problem. If they were to go, the troglodytes would go with them. Then we wouldn't need additional, unnecessary rules.

And the other day I had just posted that the video rules were perfectly reasonable. Apparently I spoke too soon.

The new rules are an excellent start, I'm still in favor of dumping at least Sharingmatrix and regardless if this is done or not I think the board DEFINITELY needs a 'holding pen' for 'new member' posters (say less than 3 months membership at Phun) where their newly created threads can be held and reviewed by mods before being allowed.

Deleted posts and banning are exactly why they are less likely to post. SOME will be hard headed and feel the extra effort is worth it though you are right. I suspect admin will find a reason to ban the worst offenders.

Just because they frustrate you doesn't mean they are pointless. They make sense - in fact they are exactly what I was doing all along because the rules apply on other big sites already.

The only addition I find a little over the top is to type the movie info into the post. This is a bit of a pain but it still makes sense in the event the pics go down - something that admin has no control over. I think they could forget the typing of the info and enforce a two caps rule on separate hosts - that's what I do.

This is an extreme solution but certainly true. It appears admin has chosen the rules avenue for now.

Isolating the new posters who are only here to spam is great--particularly if they end up leaving because no one pays attention to them. But what about active, respectable posters from other forums who join phun?

These rules have been added to give moderators more authority to delete and ban, so there may be less crap on the forum after the mods find and eliminate it but it will all still get posted. My point was that the consequences to breaking the rules--post deletions and bannings--aren't a deterrent to the kinds of people who forced the mods to add these new rules.

I don't think the new rules are pointless just because they frustrate me. I think they're pointless because they were unnecessary prior to the forum using HF and SM, and because they are not guaranteed, or even likely in my opinion, to solve the problems that HF and SM brought to the forum.

Take the 15 video limit rule, for example. It sounds good in theory, but who's actually sitting around counting videos per member? I suspect no one is so what's the point? Are we putting spammers and cashwhores on the honor system?

This was particularly annoying to me as I had stopped by to post some webcam clips. I posted anyway but suspect it may get deleted. The members quietly posting away on the SecretFriends and DirectSex webcam threads are not the cause of all the problems phun is currently experiencing.

All these suggestions--no matter how good--are just workarounds to the problems caused by adding these two new hosts. What good have they brought to the forum and why must they stay?

The only way to do a holding pen is for ALL new members newly created threads to go there and you know it, not too harsh a rule, only 3 months, if you really want to be a contributing member and aren't here just to spam you shouldn't care, not talking about posts you make under other people's threads or existing approved threads. Meanwhile the spammers will get tired of waiting and drop out and creating new accounts won't help them.

I think you should be a member at least 3 months before being able to post or make your first post. This is most sensible. We will not get people who come here then just to spam. About file hosts.... RS is going down but i think MU is the best .Why not stick with MU. Hotfile..i am not a fan.Sharingmatirx..WTH. I will use them probably in the future but i don't really buy into them.
    About imagehosts..made a proposition a while back about http://uppix.net/
They got zero adverts so why can't we approve them already. They are much better than imagesocket

About govenment efforts to shut piracy out from filesharing, well two weeks ago they shut down all US operated watch movie sites. They do not even host anything.Just post links to where you can watch and i am not even talking download. Many of those sites have moved to foreign domains in order to keep on. It does not take a genius to understand that we are in a recession and it is the stars who backed Obama into power so these producers and hollywood in general are finding it hard in a recession to be earning a couple of million less than previous years and they think by shutting out piracy , they will get people to watch more movies in theaters and buy music cds like before in record numbers .The box office is such a lie i would say. Figures are being projected falsely to keep people going still but despite their efforts, their numbers compared to previous years are down. A quick census i took personally showed that in my immediate surrounding, of the 200 people i asked randomly, only 15 % admit having seen more than 3 movies in theaters this year. The rest which is 85% have been there lesser times.Ask people for yourselves and you will see the incoherance of the Box office.got even some friends in different regions who came up with the same stats as me

I know they hide behind intellectual property which is law but i believe in Robin Hood justice in a way.The Net is the great equalizer to some extent. Why do producers and actors need to earn double and even triple digit millions when the average joe working his arse off is only seeing his spending power diminish with each year. i know the world is not fair but hollywood and co..learn to live with piracy or bring your prices down to an affordable level where we could buy without question

Sharing Matrix sucks ass. Period. Any file sharing site that makes you wait 10 minutes for a non-premium download is just taking the piss. Why the hell is anyone even bothering with it?
I use firefox and Jdownloader and sharing matrix doesn't work on either, both just starting a new 10 minute countdown when the last one ended.
For the sake of this forum ban it now.

If anyone starts saying i need to use a different browser i will leave you with a recent quote.....

That wasn't the right answer was it?

Well pal, I see you have only made 3 post since you joined in 2006, but DAMN, you hit the nail on the head. I agree with you 100 %. I get the same problems with firefox and jdownloader. For the life of me, I cant figure out why any forum would allow this shitty host besides getting paid by them to do so! I just wish if that was the reason, they would just say it, and we wont have to continue to give our opinion about how fucked up the service is at Sharing Matrix. Who ever the Admins are that are backing these worthless fuckers, just come in here and tell us your getting paid to do so, and we can just deal with it and move on! WTF!

    Careful!

    I will say this once.

NO ONE, ADMIN, MOD OR CAYNE, IS GETTING PAID FROM SM FOR PHUN TO HAVE IT AS A FILE HOSTING OPTION!

Now that the poll, thread, and decision about banning SM are closed, and the discussion moved to this thread, it would be interesting if a poll could be opened here to determine the #1 Choice among downloaders, instead of who to ban.

Phun may permit hosts that prohibit porn, but can they be recommended?
How long are the files or points going to exist?
As of today, July 26, these 6 hosts are allowed

    1.rapidshare
    2.megaupload
    3.mediafire
    4.zshare
    5.sharingmatrix
    6.hotfile

My initial 7-1 reaction was to boycott RS, ban SM, and upload with MU.
However, it seems among the first 4 listed above, only RS permits porn
MU is rather defiant in their FAQ statements about copyrights, porn, and points.
Others do not even permit nudity

    Looks like HotSharing vs. RS

Careful! Well I just Read the post in the other thread that SM and HF are going to be allowed. I dont know why I need to be warned about being careful about expressing my opinion. Anyone with common sense read the same post I posted above, and can make up his or her own mind. I just call them like I see them. As far as I am concerned, a decision has finally been made. Whether I feel it was based on money issues is a freedom of choice. Im just glad all the BS will stop now because a decision is made. If you want to tell me to be careful for that, or even ban me, what can I do. I just thought here in America we had a freedom of expression. In my OPINION, there is only one reason to keep such a shitty host, that no one can download from except one. There are many other file host that work perfectly to take up the load. EX. Deposit, Netload, etc. at least they work for all users when you try to download. Like I said, I only express my opinion! If you want to ban me for that, SO BE IT! Im sure they're many others who feel the same way I do, who wont say anything because you threaten when someone speaks their mind. Its clear that the polls were worthless. So ban, or no ban I wont be commenting on this further. However, its clear to those who surf phun on a regular basis exactly whats going on!

just an fyi, I for one will not download another file hosted on SM. Since this hoster was allowed, I have had my AVG alert go off like crazy but unfortunaltely, no less than 48 different mallware and trojans have infected my computer and there were NONE before I began downloading via that shithole SM. I am absolutely positive of this since four of the trojans were directly traceable to files downloaded from SM hosts.

I love this place and understand the need to look beyond RS and do not blame the admins in any way, but unless RS just shuts down or fucks me completely, I will not download any content or post any content unless it at least has an RS mirror. And for you fucks who post shit with virus code embedded, I hope your fuckin house burns down with your kittens inside hugging your granny... you fucks....grrrrr
