Did you mean to say cashwhores instead of SM?
I have it in for all of them, along with RS.

In fact you may have noticed that I lobbied in three different threads against banning SM, agreeing with Phun that we need the capacity.
Even more true now that in Brazil, MU is behaving like the other overloaded cashwhores, too busy to give out free slots.

If you look carefully at the numbers, you might notice that I had 226 posts (most all of it video content).
I removed the dead RS links to assist the search function and clean up the forum for others, that made the post count drop. I would have removed all of them, but the Jake Steed thread was closed.

so much for efficient use of taxpayers dollars.

It is clear to see that in some regions, at some times, and depending on whether or not you have a premium account, one or another host may be the cat’s pajamas for you…but that does not change the fact that sooner or later the cashwhoring and the
leech-copy-paste-flood-spam-bump-troll mentality are going to ruin it for all of us.
    -
RS on the other hand, will always be remembered as a traitor, liar, and cheat...even if it ends up being the only host to use.

Agreed, but it is an election year !
To them it is efficient use of taxpayer’s money since funds are directed to them in the form of political campaign contributions from the tinsel town industries, with the blessing of their beancounters and legal beagles.

The largest-scale criminal activities on the planet involve money laundering and trafficking of arms, drugs, and people.
ICE (U.S. Customs) certainly has enough to keep them busy without seizing domains.

I deleted most of my RS links there due to all of this, so apologies to anyone who tries to download any of my (admittedly few) links posted here. Personally, as a free user, I have always preferred MU since it's the fastest and less restrictive in regards to waiting times and such (and I realize that differs from country to country). I was really hoping people might migrate to Megaporn as it has a reward scheme which involve premium accounts as opposed to HF who have a cash only reward scheme which doesn't interest me. The drawback being than any file exceeding 100mb will be exempt from any reward so I know that having 4 links for a 350mb video, for example, will mightily piss off phun members.

It looks like HF is the best of a bad bunch but it's better than SM which I literally have been unable to download a single thing from for over a month.

I am deeply touched by your sentiments - I do hope the wounds heal with time . .

Just out of interest, SM/FS now seems to have ceased to function - just getting page cannot be found messages . .

I'm kinda new to the file sharing game and this may be a loaded question, but is it worth the money to become a member of something like HF? Are the d/l speeds really that much more significant?

Here is my latest input on this topic.

RS: For me, RS is dead for uploading (since the new policy, I have been unable to upload anything).

I still use my Premium status to d/l and many of my files (35 + GB) remain active (though I am deleting files that have not seen action in 30 days or longer) and I still have over 6,700 Rapids left.

MUL: My preferred host at this time. As a Free user, the upload speeds are up to 5 x faster than my premium RS and the d/l speeds usually run in the .7 - 1.1 Mbps range. Sure, it's only one file at a time, but that 25 second wait time is nothing (unless you exceed the daily d/l limit).

However, I have noticed a small upload problem. A few times yesterday, I tried to upload files and got an error when the file did not upload. Tried again and it worked fine.

MediaFire: Great d/l speeds from this host, but accessing it can be a problem (blank screen) and the files don't seem to last very long.

HF: Lately, the d/l speed has improved from around 100Kbps to 200 - 300 Kbps.

The 30 minute wait time can be a pain, especially when you just d/l'ed a small file. And, a couple of times, the system got stuck and showed that I was d/l'ing something, but I wasn't.

SM/FS: Since the transistion to FS, the d/l has improved. Wait times are either 30 seconds or 10 minutes and the the d/l speed is in the mid 200 Kbps range.

But like HF, the system has gotten stuck and showed that I was d/l'ing, when I wasn't.

Netload: TG it is not allowed here. Numerous pop-ups, along with spyware and for me, S-L-O-W d/l speeds ( < 25 Kbps; that is NOT a typo - less than 25 Kbps).

It's been a while since I've used DF, FileShare or UpLoadIt. But, as a free user, DF has slowed down alot and while FS and ULI has good d/l speeds, the files don't seem to stay long.

Greetings and welcome to the board.

"Usually" a premium account allows for unlimited downloading at line/ISP speed and no wait times.

There was a new host called Upit-Downit (not allowed here at Phun and has since died a tragic death) and as a free user, I got around 100 Kbps. As a Premium Member, I was getting upto 1.3 Mbps.

With RapidShare, there was never any wait times, but the d/l speeds were all over the place ( < 100 Kbps to > 1 Mbps, depending a sever load and time of day).

Many members who signed up with SM for a premium account found themsleves out some money with no improvement in d/l speed or wait times.

Now, if you don't mind waiting up to 30 minutes and slower d/l speeds, why pay for the service? Especially if you don't d/l that much.

Do you think that you and people like you that share the same perspective have any hope of winning the battle vs cash paying hosts?

    Anyone else find this ?

If you have a lot of patience and really want the file it can be worth the effort, but in my experience it appears SM/FS will be here until enough complaints get the Phun moderators to decide they've had enough and pull the plug on them. HF is far superior to SM/FS regarding download speed for Premium downloaders.

SM/FS spammers didn't get paid, that's why they are dying out. Zero replies means no dls, means no $$$ for the spammers.

You live by the sword you die by the sword.

Somebody coming to a free forum with content they DID NOT produce and trying to spam members with it by making money should be tarred and feathered at least. I don't want to say what the "most" should be but it involves machetes and wild dogs...

this site should seriously consider using Fileserve, 500kbs for a free user is not too shabby.

As of 8/22, both FS and HF have improved to the point that I have been able to download from them regularly and the download speed is excellent. However, another problem has come up to which I'd like a solution. Wilh several clip suppliers, I get gibberish when I liick on the HF or FS/SM and am unable to download. What gives????

I hope also to this. But this depends on mod-staff here.

Well actualy FileServe rates are from 300 to 360KB/s. (sometimes little more sometimes little less)

So it is close to MU for free speed rates and no other service has these results (except MU for free DL). Sometimes HF reaches these results but not always. (HF banned remote upload to all services by the way !! )

I wrote a review in my blog people to send feedback and had my personal and not only results. (see signature)

Let's wait phun staff in order to review/test it and hopefully approve it for us as FileSonic i use has (new) bugs inside the bugs.......(new bugs added unfortunately) Some where fixed but still many things are still needed compared to old SM.

Uh, guys. You got to remember d/l speed is controlled by several factors.

    1) Location, Location, Location.

    2) ISP

    3) Server Load (time of day)

    4) Your connection type (DSL, Cable, 56K, T-1, etc).
