What's Up With Rapidshare? + New File Hosts

Sharingmatrix is a joke. I say use Hotfile or Megaupload or both

 

I have had a megaupload account for years and never had any problems, BUT DON'T download their D/L manager, trust me it may as well be called a pain in the arse virus that will fuck you off.

I have had a depositfiles account a couple of times and have found it to be slow at peak times and I had far to many lost connections.

Sharingmatrix will never have another penny out of me, I had a problem with my password and it took about 30 emails and 2 weeks to sort out. About a month before the end of my year it fucked up again so i wrote it off.

I have had a vip-file account, the best i have ever had, cheap, fast, huge file size but no free downloads.

As for crapidshare, thanks for screwing me over with a years membership that's going to worthless. I hope they go fucking bust!!!

Will see how things pan out and may give hotfile a try as there is tons of content all over the net and its got faster as a free user over the past few months.

 

I suppose I may as well throw my own two cents in. I never got into the old debate I saw littering the Phun boards about Rapidshare vs Megaupload. They always seemed comparable to me, and I have premium accounts of both. From what I hear about Rapidshare, I will likely NOT renue it. This leaves me with an opening for a new premium account.

I will NOT NOT NOT make this sharingmatrix. In the short time that it has been allowed here on Phun, I have become increasingly frustrated. Sharingmatrix has agonizingly slow download speeds. Also, about 30% of my dowloads have been dropped halfway (of course this means another ten minute wait to start from the beginning).

On another note, the sharingmatrix posts seem to be of lower quality. I'm not sure why this is. The content and clip quality seem to be below Phun typical standards, though.

Hotfile, on the other hand, seems to be a viable replacement for Rapidshare. Download speeds seem better, and the quality of the content seems to be up to the standards we're used to.

I'm not thrilled about switching from Rapidshare, but it's a bag of worms that THEY opened. All we can do is go Darwin. Evolve. Adapt. In my opinion, sharingmatrix is NOT a step forward. :2cent:

 

SM sucks, even for uploader.. it has slow upload speed.
i'd say ditch SM, but keep HF.

 

That might be the case for you, but isn't for me.
I get upload speeds at SM of 3-6Mb/s. A 300Mb file takes about 1 minute to upload, while it takes 15 minutes to upload the same file at hotfile.
Situation might be different from location to location, and I'm pretty close (litterally) to the SM servers.

I haven't contributed before, but i do use this site to download alot of things and up until recently its been a good site, but sharing matrix is a bad bad bad host, i've tried and failed on many many occasions to download stuff from them with no success, i'm of the same opinion of quite a few other posters when they say that they close the thread when they see the SM and i instantly do the same.

I've also had some problems with hotfile, but nothing like SM.

I'd be all for hotfile staying and SM no longer being used.

Alright, some common sense and somewhat snarky replies from me.

Sure... (1) why didn't you list Hotfile and (2) is this your first post in over a year?

Alright, let's all keep in mind that we can still USE Rapidshare here at Phun and as much as we all hate Rapidshare's new policy shift it might very well be that ALL filehosters will be taking this route in the next 6-8 months. So, it's not that we should replace Rapidshare but just include one other new filehost service to be a bit more flexible for uploading/downloading purposes.

If you're using their premium service, I'm sure that's your speeds. If you're not, well... Sharingmatrix is pretty dismal.
But to that point, not too long ago Hotfile had the same problems that SM are having now and also used the same almost "shady" strategies in almost forcing new members to buy a premium account to download (i.e. freezing download timer, reset of download links after expire timer, interrupted downloads). I'm still holding some hope that SM flips the switch so that it's much better to use (hopefully when they fully embrace the FileSonic brand), but we'll see.

While Sharingmatrix doesn't help itself by making it super easy to make money on mediocre quality uploads (while compared to Hotfile that has a tiered system to reward uploads that are only downloaded often), the REAL problem are all these reposters, spammers and new posters sharing low quality videos. If Phun just allowed Hotfile and not Sharingmatrix, we would still be having a bunch of users trying to make a quick buck (tho, probably not the mass influx we've seen in the past 2 weeks since both HF and SM were allowed).
So, my guess is that the admins are looking into solving the central issue of mass posting and spamming mostly from new users which might lead to initial posting limitations based on replies, a new "holding pen" section for new members or some other rather drastic changes to the Phun forum. Solving the central issue of mass posting also would help stop phishing posts that have occurred in the past couple of months.

Hey... if cayne is making some side cash from RS, MU, HF and SM, more power to him especially if it helps keep Phun running - a couple of other boards already have link-ads to filehost services so it's not completely out of the question.

Allowing hotfile & sharingmatrix has screwed up this site. Phun is no longer a fun site, it's just like all the other porn forums. Also now I need a proxy to access it. Please stop hotfile & sharingmatrix as in the last couple of days there have been countless reposts in the sexy videos section. Let megaupload take the place of RS instead of allowing hotfile & sharingmatrix. Both those sites work well only if you have a premium account. At least hotfile can be tolerated to some extent but sharingmatrix is just crap.

 

After the changes on Rapidshare, I've tried out 2 other file hosts, SM and megaupload.
Had lots of trouble with my uploads on SM, asked for support...never heard from them, finally got a refund!
So I went for megaupload and opened a premium account and began uploading using their mega manager. NONE of the files showed up in my filemanager. Asked for support. They responded by sending me standard replies that they were sorry, but files were delayed after upload, so please wait, "while we are working on a fix". Waited a week, nothing got fixed. NO uploaded files showed...so I asked for a refund and got it!
It seems most file hosts are pure crap...

 

Even I like it, I pass lot of time to search, upload, re-up, make previews, etc.. to share my files and yes I consider that to earn a little money on the uploads is not shameful. I work hard in my job for a pittance, so it helps a bit.


I do not know if I deserve to post here, and if my opinion has any importance but I use often SM, HF, DF & MU (rarely RS & MP).

I have premiums in all, so I don't know free user problems, sorry. But in PREMIUM for me all are good, speed is equal, best for uploads are MU & DF, the worst indeed is SM, best for manage links are DF & SM.

I think the problem isn't the hosts but how use them. Here is a mess recently, I post often at PlanetSuzy & I think their rules are good.

I don't know what Phun staff will do, but I hope they find a solution to bring some order here.

I didn't try SM because I never download videos here (especially with all the recent crap posted here), but I agree with everything you said.

Hoping for some changes SOON, because it certainly ain't "phun" anymore.

 

Newest 'trick' at hotfile: Whatever you enter at the captcha you get 'Wrong code' had have to try (and wait...) again, after that it works. Crap...lthumbsdown:

 

All I know for sure is nobody from SM has shown up on any other forums to defend themselves - and the discussion of whether to use SM on other forums hasn't even gone on 2 days. The members made their feelings felt and it was dropped.

Not here.

Solving it is simple. You drop the shit host that nobody wants anyway and those people are gone - just like they were before it was allowed.
