is she fucking retarded? She get's her breasts removed because she carried the gene for breast cancer, and now that they are gone she is going to smoke or continue to smoke. I have lost any and all respect and appreciation for her.

 

Not to mention Emphysema/COPD and heart disease.

I disagree and empathize with her. She's going through the "I don't care anymore" stage after cancer. She'll shake out of that -- in a year or two -- and get it together again.

granted, it's poor judgment for her to be smoking and even poorer judgment to be smoking in public where she could be papped. but i'm with 2001pm on this. as an ex smoker, i have some empathy. i know how tough it is to quit once you're hooked and we have no clue if she chain smokes or if this was an isolated lapse in willpower for her. i had a relative die of emphysema and til the end she would take one puff from her oxygen tank and then a puff off a cig. that's how addictive it is. eddie van halen had a third of his tongue removed due to cancer and still smokes.

after what she went thru, she could have curled up in a ball and gone away but she went on tv and tried to help others and probably saved lots of lives encouraging women to get mammograms. how can you not have some respect for that.

fuck the cig manufacturers and the advertisers that made it look so cool to smoke. fuck you to the scientists that mixed just the right blend of chemicals to make such a satisfying, yet deadly product. fuck you to the ad execs behind the marlboro man campaign.

I don't smoke but I've seen first-hand all the things Snakefinger said. The problem I've always had with Christina Applegate is the convoluted messages she's been sending out over her career, almost bordering on duplicity. She was also linked to a very hard lifestyle in her early days but kept it out of the public's knowledge, unlike Kirsten Dunst and that "I wanna be a trainwreck 'cause at least you'll notice me" Lohan. I wish her all the best, but she has never been a favorite of mine since her days as Kelly Bundy.

 

What a bunch of judgmental pricks you guys are.

She had breast cancer, which you all were jumping all over each other to be sympathetic to. But now you see that she smokes, you have a "fuck her" attitude.

Some people smoke on occasion because it helps take the edge off. It doesn't necessarily mean they will get lung cancer. And besides, do we even know if she smokes two or three cigarettes per day, or two or three packs?

Would you have the same attitude if you saw a picture of her having a beer or a martini? What about a joint?

I'm not a smoker, and I've never really enjoyed being around cigarette smoke. But I say live and let live. Everybody makes their own choices in life, and chances are that most of you have made reckless decisions as well that the rest of us don't know about. The difference is that she has amateur photographers snapping images of her day in and day out, while the rest of you may privately eat your Cheetos, drink your Pabst, and jerk off 6 times a day.

She had reconstructive surgery, and is more than happy with the results (saw her speak of it in a televised interview). I'm paraphrasing here, but she said something to the effect of "now I'll have a fantastic rack till the day they plant me".

More power to her is what I say. I'll always have a light for her, and I wish people would stop whining about smokers. Through the obscene taxes we pay on each, and every pack we purchase, we foot the bill for many of the social programs that the federal government pushes, and the fucking deadbeats here in the states believe they're "entitled" to. For the time being, the USA is still a free country. If the woman wants to smoke a cigarette, so be it.
